Hello, I’m having trouble soldering off the u.FL connector on the board. Does anyone have any tips on how to take off the u.FL connector that they would like to share? Any advice will help.

    Thanks,

It can be done either using a hot air OR flooding the 3 pads with solder and then move the iron quickly between the 3 pads. Hot air is easier but soldering iron is okay if you don’t have a hot air machine. I prefer the soldering iron because it’s quiet. 🙂

    Hello,

you can start by putting solder on the hot point of the PCB (the RF not the ground pads part)
Then with a tweezer you place the connector on the pcb (the bubble of solder avoid to have it flat with the PCB).
Then apply the hot iron tool and once the solder melt your connector is partially soldered.
You have to finish with the ground connectors.

    Hello, Lim Phang and Stephane!

Just wanted to give you an update on replacing the u.FL connector.

For me the best way was to use the heat gun, I bought a heat gun online and it took me less than 5 minutes to get the u.FL connector off properly.

I did try the soldering iron, but my skills were not that good. So I would advise anyone reading this, that if you try to replace the u.FL connector with the spring antenna or a wire use a heat gun it is MUCH EASIER especially if you do not have good skill using the soldering iron.
