MAX31855 is the latest thermocouple interface IC from <a title=\"Maxim\" href=\"http:\/\/www.maxim-ic.com\" target=\"_blank\">Maxim<\/a> that allows reading of various thermocouple type (K, \u00a0J, N, T, S, R,\u00a0E) and temperature below 0\u00b0C. You can also read the cold junction temperature. MAX31855 is the direct replacement for MAX6675 which has a pretty <a title=\"Digikey\" href=\"http:\/\/search.digikey.com\/us\/en\/products\/MAX6675ISA%2BT\/MAX6675ISA%2BTCT-ND\/1859231\" target=\"_blank\">hefty price tag<\/a>. Other neat features of MAX31855 includes thermocouple open detection and short circuit detection. The only drawback of MAX31855 would be the operating voltage at 3.3V.
